Paragliding training. What is paragliding?

Paragliding

Paragliding is considered a very light aircraft (ÇHHA) in the civil aviation regulations. This may mean that you can carry the paraglider on your back. Paragliding can be confused with free parachuting. Free parachuting: is a sport that can be opened and flown in the air after starting to fall from a certain height. After the wings open, the gliding is much less than in paragliding.
Paragliding is a sport in which you start flying on a slope by running after preparing the equipment. Paragliding has a very high ability to move and stay in the air. If the weather conditions and pilot experience are sufficient, it can go much higher, perform dozens of different movements and fly hundreds of kilometers regardless of the take-off height. Paragliding ground work is one of the stages of the course that we spend most of our time on.
Under the supervision of an instructor, we work to achieve successes such as pulling the paraglider over our heads, experiencing brake controls and positions, and gaining wing control skills.
All these studies are preparations for the flight phase. These studies are carried out to the extent deemed appropriate by the instructor for safe and conscious takeoffs. The average study time is 4 hours for each individual.

We examine the camera recordings we took during ground work and work on deficiencies. After the theoretical training is completed, we conduct written and oral exams to determine if the subject has been mastered.
If there are any unclear topics, they are repeated.

Babadağ paragliding flight is done with an instructor. It takes off from about 2000 meters and a 30-minute flight is performed. The purpose of this flight is to calm the student and to apply the theoretical information learned with the instructor. From time to time, the paragliding control is left to the student so that he can perform the paragliding initial maneuvers properly.

Solo paragliding flights are the final stage of the course. If the other subjects are completed successfully, the student can now fly under radio control.
In this study, 100-meter low hills are used. The student takes off, performs air maneuvers and lands by receiving commands via radio.
An average of 7 sorties are performed during paragliding initial training.

Paragliding courses

The paragliding student candidate should continue to improve himself/herself after receiving this training. This training is only the beginning of the sport. It takes a long time to reach the stage where he/she can make his/her own decisions and decide to fly at the desired height and region. Until he/she reaches this stage, the student should act with the instructor or professional teams and with their references. When it is desired to continue paragliding courses, the courses continue gradually. There is no rule that paragliding training will be completed in a certain period of time. This process depends on the person and how much time he/she spends on paragliding training.

Club pilot (P3)

Paragliding club pilots cannot make flight decisions on their own. Therefore, the club continues to fly with instructors or experienced pilots. In P3 level paragliding training, students are taught the following skills: inverted takeoff, start of sail flight, landing and takeoff on their own.
(Average 1-3 months)

Paragliding pilot (P4)

A student who has received paragliding pilot training: can now fly on his own, stay in the air using thermal and sail bands. At the same time, he has done simple SİV (emergency) work. He is known as a P4 paragliding pilot and can participate in national competitions.
(Average 1-3 months)

Experienced pilot (P5)

A student who is an experienced paragliding pilot P5 has now become a professional in paragliding flights. He has completed full SIV work. He can participate in international paragliding competitions. The last stage of individual paragliding training is P5. Candidates who will move from the sportive process to instructor and tandem (double) flights must continue their paragliding training from the other stages.
(Average 6 months)

Tandem paragliding pilot (T1-T2)

If a paraglider pilot wants to fly a paraglider as a passenger after receiving the P5 certificate, he/she needs the T1 certificate and training.
The T2 document is a document and qualification to fly passengers commercially. The T2 document is mandatory in Ölüdeniz Babadağ, the most flown region in the world.
(Average 1-2 years)

Instructor pilot

Paragliding instructor pilot qualification includes levels within itself. Level 1 instructors can only work as assistants. Level 2 instructors can provide training at P2 level, and are diversified. Paragliding is the most complicated stage of professional life.
(Average 3-5 years)

SIV studies

What is SIV: Our paragliding flights are studies where we simulate the dangerous events that may happen to us by taking the necessary precautions on the sea before they happen to us. SIV studies are included in every stage of the training. When the pilot reaches the professional stage, SIV studies continue. These studies must be done at certain intervals for each wing. In the process before becoming a professional, these studies are done under the supervision and control of the instructor. In the following process, the pilot continues the studies with his own experience.
